Ton Kooiman Etude

The Etude thumb rest is a lightweight thumb rest for clarinet and oboe, made of durable plastic. The Etude increases playing freedom. It allows for faster and easier movements of the ring and little fingers and prevents fatigue in the thumb, hand, arm, and shoulder. It gives you a sense of control and a firm grip on your instrument.

The Etude thumb rest rests the instrument on the space between the two joints of the thumb. The leverage momentum is much smaller at this point, allowing the thumb to support the weight much more easily. A large portion of the energy required to support the weight is then available for handling the instrument. This can be used to improve control and accelerate playing technique.
Using the Etude thumb rest invites a new way of carrying the instrument. Instead of "hanging on by the tendons," the musician can now carry the instrument actively. The thumb is held higher and is either straight or slightly bent. It can also be held at an angle, which creates a more relaxed hand position on the instrument. The result is a natural and individual posture.

The Etude features a height-adjustable metal peg covered in soft rubber and a housing with improved ergonomics. Optional rubber inlay for small hands.
